Today was the perfect day for getting outside projects done. We worked out in the pasture all day and got a lot accomplished. Lets see the Mud Goddess try to steal my boots now!!

We also moved one of the horse shelters. The best part is that now I can see both of them from the living room window and you know how I like to watch my horses from my couch! Actually we moved it to higher ground since it was all soggy and sloppy inside, too. Absolutely beautiful day for getting outside projects done!

You can see Shelby and Taffy in the picture…Shelbys foot where he had the cancerous tumor is healing up nicely. So thankful they got it all!! We had to wrap his bandage with duct tape, since that’s the only thing he won’t chew off. Good ole’ duct tape!

Can’t end this post without a picture of Annie, aka, King of the Hill. ‘Up high’, where ever it may be, is always her favorite place to be.

Spiffin up the pasture entrance

Spiffin up the pasture entrance

We came upon some cement slabs that were taken from someones old sidewalk. Today we spent ALL day out in the pasture, laying the cement at the gate entrance where it gets all soupy and sloppy every time it rains. John ran the skidsteer but had a few supervisors.

Welcome 2012!

Oh wait, that should have been my post over 2 months ago!

Got a bit overwhelmed and the words didn’t seem to want to come. Or maybe I couldn’t bring myself to sit down and sort everything out to put them into print. Regardless, I guess I’m back.

The last two years have just been shit for us. Simple as that. I don’t know what kind of whacked out formation the stars were in or what kind of karma kicked us in the butt, but whatever you believe, I hope its straightened itself out and moved on.

The injuries themselves from both of our accidents were trying enough but to add all the legalities and other  strains that came from them is just a pain in the butt. It’s just like, every day it’s something else to deal with. Sorry, no specifics here and hopefully next year at this time our load will be a bit lighter and we’ll be feeling a little bit free-er. Stress can feel like a big ole’ ceiling coming down on ya, or a big ole’ bridge beam perhaps…

My working with Jax came to a halt over the winter but I plan to pick up on my lessons in the spring. I had made some progress, broke through my PTSD that came out of nowhere after my accident and Jax and I formed a real bond. I’m anxious to get back on him and work the rest of my fears out. It’s weird, cause I’m really beginning to look forward to trail riding again and am talking about camping and going here and there, but yet when I think of being on a horses back and them moving a bit too fast or tossing their head, my stomach does this ‘lurch’ thing. So I’m not there yet but plan to keep working at it.

John is back to work, but not at his ‘old’ job. He has a new position now but at least he’s back to work. By looking at him you wouldn’t know he was ever hurt so badly but the pain remains and he comes home daily with pain in his back and knee from being on his feet all day. It’s something that’s not going to go away and something he’s just going to have to learn to live with.

I’m excited about a new business venture I’m going to be beginning in the next couple months. I’m going to reduce some of my mobile business and pick up some grooming at the Clark County Humane Shelter. It will still be my business, my scheduling, pricing, etc but I’ll be grooming out of their grooming room in their shelter. Not just for adoption dogs but for the public, also. They have a need for a good groomer in that area and I’m happy to be able to help out. My mobile business keeps me so busy that I’m going to have to make some reductions in that area…just not sure how yet…but it will be something different and a welcome change for me to groom out of a building part time. Now, before the rumors start flying, NO, I am NOT selling or hanging up my mobile grooming business. I remember going into a vets office after I got hurt and the ‘official’ word on the street (from another groomer) was that I was selling my business, (wrong) that I got in over my head after I bought my new van (wrong)…and on and on. I was incredulous, all this planning about my life and I wasn’t even aware of it! That’s how it goes, though. So just to keep the record straight, Grooming On the Go will still be in business but for now will put a halt to taking new customers. And any mobile customers are welcome to bring their pets over to the shelter to be groomed. More on that as it evolves….

I have more news but John and Tyler are staring me down, waiting for me to stop typing so I can make them scrambled eggs and weiners for breakfast. Their favorite meal, easy enough to make, so I guess I’ll go drag the pan out. You all know how I hate to cook!

Happy Sunday, everyone, and I’ll be back later!

I’m sitting here thinking about all the things I need to get done today and to be honest, feeling kinda overwhelmed. I’ve had my 3 cups of coffee and the caffeine has kicked in but I don’t know where to begin. All week the Friday square on my calendar has remained empty of customers. I secretly hoped it would stay that way, a day off is always welcomed. As the week wound down and the square still remained unmarred, I began making a list of the things I could get done that I usually don’t have time for. Here’s what I have so far:

1. groom my own dogs. Not a quick thing, since I have 3, so knock out a few hours for that.

2. begin to organize all of my receipts in preparation for tax time. Ugh. Yuck. You need to see the stacks of receipts to appreciate the pounding in my chest when I think of starting this required project.

3. Work away at the laundry sorted on the bathroom floor.

4. Change the dressing on Jax’s hoof. His limp is much better but it’s still there so I’ll wrap it up one more time.

5. Do some more work on the scrapbook for the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter. I crazily volunteered to do the scrapbooking for the new pet shelter we’re trying to open in Marshfield. I was feeling a bit overwhelmed and had a mind block, didn’t know where to start with it so the last two nights Marcy, a cowgirl friend came over to help with it. We got a good start on it and had a lot of fun doing it. Last night Donna came over and joined in, which helped too. Marcy and I had a pretty good system going from the first night and it turned out we are both sorta ‘OCD-ish’ when it comes to making sure things are cut straight and trimmed perfectly. I almost had to dial 911 when Donna glued a piece of trim on the page that was crooked…but it worked out and ended up looking fantastic. We worked on it until all 3 of us could barely keep our eyes open any longer..it was a fun and productive evening.

I think that’s it. Only 5 things. I have all day but it’s already 9:13 and I’m thinking if I don’t get off of this computer and get going the day will be over with and nodda will be accomplished. Dave and Donna were kind enough to give us a gift certificate to Applebees for Christmas, so tonights plan is to do a movie and supper. Or supper and a movie..can’t quite decide on the order of events but I’m looking forward to it. ‘War Horse’ is playing now and I’ve been waiting for it to hit our theater but now that it’s here we’re not sure if we really want to see it. It’s suppose to be sad and you know me and Donna and sadness and animals…not a good combination. So I think we’re gonna see “I Bought a Zoo” which got good reviews and sounds like a much happier evening.

OK…I poured 2 more cups of caffeine into my body since beginning this so now I really have to get out of the recliner and get at my list.

Happy Friday everyone!! I’ll probably be checking back in this afternoon sometime and letting you know which one thing I got done!!

Oh, and before I wrap this off, let me jump back to #5, the Marshfield Area Pet Shelter. If you do one good thing, make one little donation, want to help out one organization that needs it so badly and is such a good cause, please buy a membership to the pet shelter so we can get this up and running. Right now we’re in the membership drive and fundraising mode, trying to get enough funds up to rent a building and get the Pet Shelter underway. This will just be a temporary home for the Pet Shelter until enough funds are raised to build the permanent building. Our community needs this so very badly. It baffles me, the amount of cats and dogs that are found on the streets, either abandoned or lost and we need a place for these animals to be rehabilitated,  attempts made at rejoining them with their owners, or eventually adopted out to new loving families. As Karen said at the last meeting, if everyone waits until the building is built and open to volunteer, it’ll never happen. Help is needed now from everyone or it’ll never get off the ground….there will be no builing!

An adult membership is only $15, and a family only $50. Fifteen dollars…you can easily spend that at McDonalds on a meal for two. Think of it as your good deed for the Holiday Season, for the New Year, or just because it’s for a good cause. They have an awesome website with the membership form right there, ready to print out and mail in, or even a PayPal button if you prefer to pay online. Think about it, look up the page, donate. Remember, we are their voice…their only voice.

This was posted on Face Book and I have to post it here on my blog so it’s not lost. Ah, yes…the idiosychrasies of horse people. Yes, every single one makes sense to me, and I can’t tell you how many days I’ve spent mucking stalls in place of a paid therapist.

We are horse people……. you don’t have to understand us! We know that all external medicine is either waterproof, blue or yellow. We have no problem eating a sandwich directly after mucking stalls. We know, why a thermometer has to have a string attached to the end. We are not welcome in laundromats. We don’t think anything sexual if someone talks about chains, whips or leather. We can lower ou…r voice instantly by 5 octaves to shout at a horse pawing at the floor. We would sooner quit a relationship than our hobby. We talk to our car to make it up the hill. We have better insurance for our horse than our car. We know more about our horses diet than our own. We buy grain and hay before buying our own food. We have less to wear than our horse. Its common to see us wearing barn clothes in public. And we know that mucking a stable is the best cure for depression.~
